LONGING OF ‘PARTICLE’ TO THE ‘WHOLE’: TIME IN NECİP FAZIL’S POEMS
Mathematically functioning as a regulator in every field of life, when time is carried on to metaphysical or philosophical area, it becomes a quite complex enigma. This is why religions and philosophical disciplines focused on the concept of time and developed approaches from various perspectives. Literature has not been indifferent to this fact, and authors and poets dealt with time as a subject in their texts. Turkish literature has rich examples in terms of dealing with time as a subject or a matter. Time, which was mainly emphasized on the grounds and studied in texts specified by Islamic perspective in Classical literature, entered into our literature as a philosophical matter as of the period of the Tanzimat Reform years. Necip Fazıl became prominent in Turkish literature in dealing with the time within the references of classical literature as well as philosophical concept. Time, which will be experienced as a suffering by ‘every kind of mind’, occupies Necip Fazıl’s mind excessively. The poet deals with the time as a matter in straightforward manner in many poems and indirectly in some poems. We witness that he dealt with the subject not only in his poetry but also in his prose writings. This study will analyze Necip Fazıl’s thoughts about time in mystical as well as philosophical concepts and place of these thoughts in his poetry; there will be further analysis by detecting the sources of his opinions about time.
