Humour in the Serdengecti Magazine
Although the humour that arises from the need of criticism of people or events in social life is based mainly on laugh effect also takes a role of defence mechanism that is produced by social conscience. The humour that is able to make the truth acceptable has been used throughout the history of Turkish press. From the beginning to the present, in humour publishing that has been developed from the point of Marxist view, there have been limited number of right-winger humour magazines and newspapers. The Magazine Serdengeçti that had revealed many abstained facts in Turkey in the published period (1947-1962) deserves to be examined with the humour chapter titled “Gülünç Hakikatler” (Ridiculous Facts) that took place in each volume. In this study, humour understanding of the Magazine Serdengeçti, which could be published only 33 volumes between 1947 and 1962, is analysed within the transition period from single-party state to multi-party system (1947-1950, the Republican People's Party power), within ten-years period of the Democratic Party and of the National Unity Government established after May 27, 1960 coup d’état and finally within the coalition period of the Republican People's Party and Justice Party. Results of the humour understanding is dealt with in the context of freedom of expression and publication ethics in various periods of power. In the research, which relates to humorous texts in the Magazine Serdengeçti, qualitative content analysis method is used. In this descriptive study, its humour language is dealt with by examining related volumes and its humour emphasis is debated through examples.
